Creating Outdoor Living Areas For Different Needs

A garden is not just an area of land that comes attached to a property. It can serve all kinds of needs, depending on who lives in the property and what age they are.

Outdoor living areas can be relaxing, attractive, peaceful, useful and functional, and it’s possible to integrate all these things together in one garden if it is structured in the right way.

Here are some ideas for creating small outdoor living areas to be contained within a single garden.

An Area For The Children

If you have a reasonable size garden, outdoor living areas specifically for the kids can be a good way to ensure they can play safely without their play equipment taking over the entire garden.

An area well away from any hazards and covered with play bark to protect them from any falls will provide an ideal base for swings, slides or playhouses.

An Area For The Adults

A patio is one of the most popular outdoor living areas for adults to enjoy. Some comfortable patio furniture is all that’s needed to make the most of this area. Use pots and planters to add a touch of color and vibrancy.

An Area For Calm

If you are lucky enough to have a reasonable sized tree in your garden with a sturdy trunk, this can be the ideal place for a reading corner. You can either build a circular bench going all the way round the tree, or simply provide a single wooden chair to recline in under the shade of the branches above. A few pots filled with flowers underneath the tree will mark it as a calm outdoor living area.

An Area For Wildlife

Outdoor living areas aren’t just attractive for humans. Make your garden wildlife friendly by hanging bird feeders in several places, and perhaps attaching a bird box to a tree.

A pond will attract a lot of wildlife, but make sure it is safe for children by putting a wire mesh over the top of it.

An Area For Growing Your Own Food

You don’t need to have a huge garden to try your hand at growing your own vegetables. Mark out a plot that is tucked away from the rest of the garden – ideally somewhere near a greenhouse or shed.

Many different outdoor living areas can be created within a single garden. All that is necessary is a little creative thinking to make sure you get the best from your own particular garden.
