Gardening Tips

Gardener GardeningImage via WikipediaThere are a few gardening tips that have worked for me in the past that I am going to share with you because when starting your own garden there is no reason to head in with your eyes closed. Gardening tips are easily available through the internet, gardening clubs, books, magazines and the local nursery. The information that you must have are the amount of sunshine your garden would get, mulch, tips on using fertilizers and the type of soil needed. You would also want to know the types of tools you need along with the kind of tiller and watering system that are required.

Tip #1: There is nothing as great as writing down the entire gardening plan on a piece of paper. It also helps you save time. Take the help of a friend if needed. Keep the plan in front of you and let the brainstorming begin. One of the important points to think about is its overall looks. How far is the hose from the garden and are you going to need sprinklers? Of course there are other points which may come up also.

Gardening Tip #2: Make sure that you prepare the soil correctly. This factor can come between you and the success you make out of your garden. Plants have varying needs when it is a matter of the type of soil that they grow on. If your garden is planned to be vegetarian or herbal, make sure to use only organic fertilizers if you want the natural flavor of the food to remain. Instead of using ordinary fertilizer, try using any good compost or even wooden chip mulch.

Having a backyard compost heap is not really impossible, especially when you consider its returns. Fresh home brew compost is filled with essential nutrients for our herb and vegetable garden, but after all it may not be a very realistic idea. If you are looking for an alternative to home compost mixture, mulch is your choice but make sure that they are of softer woods like pine or redwood since these woods break faster. Whether you use mulch, compost or fertilizer, you must mix them well.

Gardening Tip #3: You might like to make last minute changes to the appearance of your garden. to be able to do this, do not plant the plants soon after the soil is ready. Just lay them out ion top of the soil and check whether you like what you see. I believe that the best option is to plant together all plants which have same individualities. For instance, all plants which have similar radius should be planted close to each other. Then, if you arrange the plants in such a way that the taller ones are at the back with the shorter ones in front, then you can see all the plants together.

Gardening Tip #4: You must water your garden regularly. Depending on the size of your house, watering a garden can be tough. I advise using an automatic watering system because that almost makes gardens grow themselves. Ranging from a big sprinkler system to a timer on a hose sprinkler, these automatic systems can provide the solution. Gardening is one of the most rewarding hobbies you can have and it can provide you with shade, beauty and more often then not food!
